Review: Qatar Airways B777 Qsuite, Bangkok-Doha

Qatar Airways B777 Qsuite, Bangkok to Doha

Flying Qsuite from Bangkok to Doha last week, our trip started visiting the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge in Bangkok. On this flight, we also had the chance to try Chef Ian Kittichai´s signature dish. Find out more through this review.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)

We arrived at the Departure Hall of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport around 5:25am after clearing immigration and getting our luggage from our Philippine Airlines flight from Cebu. We were supposed to arrive in Bangkok around midnight and stay at an airport hotel but a schedule change on the Philippine Airlines CEB-BKK flight plus a further delay gave us just an hour before the check-in counters opened so there was no point of staying at a hotel.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

There were self service check-in kiosks although Qatar Airways is not among the airlines using it.

Bag drop was not offered either as a result.

Check-in, Aisles Q and R

Interestingly, Qatar Airways uses Aisle Q for the economy class check in ...

... and Aisle R for those flying in business class as well as those with status and those who had checked-in online. The check in counters opened at around 6:30am using counters R1-4 for business class. The agent confirmed that we were flying with the B777 with Qsuites and after a few minutes, we were on our way to security and passport control.

Fast track 👍

Qatar Airways Premium Lounge

The Qatar Airways Premium Lounge in Bangkok is definitely one of the most beautiful lounges in the airport, if not the most gorgeous. Service was very friendly and it was like being in a boutique hotel, which is what Qatar Airways is actually aiming for when they opened this lounge.

Boarding, Gate G5

We left the lounge a bit earlier and reached Gate G5 around 8:43am. About 14 minutes later, boarding began.

Qsuite Cabin

The business class cabin has a total of 42 seats with the bigger cabin being comprised of seats in row 1-6.

Larger business class cabin from rows 1-6.

The smaller business class cabin from rows 7-11 had 18 seats.

Also, the middle of the cabin has personal air vents and overhead storage, something they did not install on their A350 with Qsuite. As for the personal screen, I noticed that they did not have the moving camera installed which is very helpful if you are not seated by the window.

As usual, there was also super WIFI where a passenger is allowed to connect for one hour free of charge.

Seat 1E

My seat 1E is a rear-facing seat. We have flown Qsuites on a Boeing 777 from Hong Kong to Doha last year so this was actually our second time on a Qsuite B777 👍

From the movie selection, I ended up watching Maleficent ...

... and Gemini Man.

Brics Amenity Kit

As usual, the amenity kit was from Brics containing products from Monte Vibiano Vecchio.

Pre-departure Beverage

Moments after settling in, the flight attendant taking care of my aisle came to present herself and took my pre-departure beverage order as well as my choice of towel. I settled for a glass of apple juice which was served with a hot towel. She also showed us the seat features of the Qsuite.

Mike on the other hand had a glass of bubbly.

Moments later, menu card was distributed and newspapers were also offered. At 9:23am, the captain came on the PA to welcome us on board, informing us of our flight time of 7 hours and 25 minutes. He also informed us of the delay due to the airport being busy.

Safety Video

Around 9:28am, the new safety video was played on the screen. About 5 minutes later, meal order was taken and I opted for the signature dish by Chef Kittichai which was the "Braised beef short rib", and a cup of Sencha tea. After a bit of waiting, we took off at 9:50am.

Breakfast

There was turbulence after take off so the meal service was delayed. At 10:50am, my cup of sencha tea was served which was later followed by the table set up.

Mike had the signature dish: Braised beef short rib with rice noodle soup.

I had the same minus the garnish. It was very good 😋

After his soup, Mike had the Lamb medallion with Bearnaise sauce and the scallop dumpling while I declined for more as I was already full.

Cold towel and mint to end the meal service.

Lavatory

There are 4 lavatories on this B777 which is a big plus. The A350 we would take from Doha to Stockholm had more seats than the B777 and yet had only 3 lavatories.

Hand lotion and cologne spray from Rituals

Shaving kit and dental kits were provided in the lavatory.

Lunch

I woke up with 2 hours left before landing and was served the scallop spring roll which I had reserved earlier. I was also offered some dessert and opted for the Mini lemon eclaire.

Airshow

Airshow enroute to Doha

The captain was back on the PA around 12:20pm and informed us that we would soon start our descent and that we would be landing at 1:10pm. I also had a chat with the CSM about the Godiva chocolates not being proactively served. She explained that on flights with breakfast service, Godiva chocolates are not offered. Only those with lunch and dinner service would include Godiva chocolates which is why none were offered on this morning flight as we had breakfast.

We landed in Doha Airport at 1:06pm with a temperature of 22 degrees.

Transiting in Doha Airport

As business class passengers, we had access to the fast track lane 👍

We also had the chance to see the "Small Lie" by artist Kaws located in the North Node 😍

To get to Al Mourjan Lounge, we had to take the train for the first time which was cool 😉

CONCLUSION

Flying in Qatar Airways business class is always a pleasant experience so getting the Qsuites on this Boeing 777 was an extra surprise. As usual, the seat was very comfortable and private. The amenity kit from Brics and Monte Vibiano Vecchio were lovely and the meals were great. Lastly, the crew on this flight were super friendly that I could not ask for a better one. To all the crew on this flight, Shukran 😍
