Hotel Exterior & Entrance

The original mansion where the reception and the restaurant are located is about 100 years old so it has a lot of history in it. The annex where all the 54 rooms are located is about 16 years old.

Reception

The reception is located to the left as you enter the lobby. I booked this stay directly on the Hilton website where I redeemed points. I paid 20K Hilton points for the first night and 25K Hilton points for the second night. I would say that it was among the best uses of my Hilton points.

The Lounge at the Mansion

The lobby referred to as "The lounge at the Mansion" is a popular spot for afternoon tea from 3-6pm. It is open from 12 noon to 6pm.

They also have an experience called Gin O'Clock although we did not try it.

Check-in

We arrived at the hotel around 1pm and our room was not ready yet. Nevertheless, we could do the normal check-in and leave our luggage so we could have some lunch first. A deposit of 300MYR was charged to my credit card and I was told that it would be back to my account in a week or so. We were also offered a late check-out possibility if needed, as a Hilton diamond member.

Lychee Chinese tea and cookies served in a colorful Peranakan tea set during check-in

The hotel is part of the YTL Hotels chain, just like the Pangkor Laut Resort, an SLH Hotel where we stayed last year. We returned around 2:30pm and were told that our room was ready. Arvind, the Filipino associate working that day who helped us with the check-in also escorted us to the room. He was very nice and always smiling, addressing me by my name on every encounter. He is truly a gem in the hotel.

Elevators & Hallway

The highest floor is the 10th floor.

Dekuxe King Room, 805

We were assigned room 805 which was a really nice room. Although all the rooms are facing the river, the view from room 805 was just spectacular, both during day and night time 👍

The king bed was one of the most comfortable beds we've had.

Chaise lounge perfect to watch the views 👍

There was also a welcome amenity waiting for us which was 3 slices of cake 😋

On one side of the bed is the phone, writing kit, SLH book and 2 YTL magazines. Inside the drawer is a bible.

The dishes in photos

Mike had the American coffee while I had the usual chamomile tea.

First, we were served some sliced fruits.

Then came the bread basket which was served with butter and strawberry jam.

The classic breakfast which Mike had was very good according to him.

The Nasi Lemak was okay although the rice was not warm/hot (maybe it is not supposed to be warm).

On our second day, Mike had the Obu Cozido Portugis which is more or less a shakshuka which Mike thought was very good.

I had the pancakes which were okay.

I asked the waiter if one person gets to order only 1 dish and when he told me that each guest could order like 3 items from the menu, I asked for a boiled egg and chicken sausage which was served promptly.

This information was left out when we came to breakfast the first day.

CONCLUSION

Being a member of SLH, I would say that this is probably the best hotel in Malacca: the location is perfect, just opposite Kampung Morten with lovely views of the Malacca River. The rooms are well appointed and the staff were all friendly. The breakfast ala carte was very good too, although as a buffet person, I would have preferred that. Special shoutout to Arvind, the Filipino associate at the front desk, always smiling and willing to be of help. He is truly a gem of the hotel.
