Korean Air business class, Cebu to Seoul Incheon

Trip to Chisinau and Podgorica flying Korean Air and Saudia Business Class

Introduction

This is the second portion of my Autumn trip, where I fly from the Philippines back to Europe flying Korean Air and Saudia business class from Cebu to Milan. Once in Europe, I fly with Austrian and LOT in economy class visiting the cities of Chisinau in Moldova and Podgorica in Montenegro. So looking forward to this trip 😉

Check-in, Mactan Cebu Airport

As my home airport in the Philippines, I am a big fan of its design. The glulam timber comes from Austria. I guess steel is no longer that popular 😉

Korean Air uses zone C for it's check-in desks. C1-C3 are for business class passengers as well as those with status. Check in went smoothly and moments later, I had my boarding passes as well as a lounge invitation. Due to aircraft change, I was moved to seat 14J but then got back seat 14A when I was in the lounge.

Plaza Premium Lounge, Mactan Cebu Airport

Being based in Cebu, I have visited the Plaza Premium Lounge several times. I love that the food offering is very good, maybe not so with the drinks but still a very nice lounge with some seating offering tarmac views.

Aircraft, Boeing 777-300 (HL8346)

This is a special aircraft as it is Korean Air´s 200th Boeing aircraft.  There is also a sticker on the nose showing 200th Boeing 👍The aircraft is about 6.5 years old.

Boarding, Gate 15

Boarding was scheduled at 12:40am for the 1am departure. At 12:30, business class passengers and those with status began boarding.

Business Class Cabin

The business cabin has a total of 42 seats in a staggered 2-2-2 configuration with direct aisle access for every seat. There is a smaller business cabin in front of the galley with 6 seats and then remaining 36 seats behind the galley from rows 8 to 14. The aircraft also has 8 first class seats in front of the business cabin although I believe it is not being used.

This is the seat map when I chose my seat months before departure (which apparently had been changed on the day of departure).

Seat, 14A

My seat 14A is a window seat. This reminded me of the British Airways business class seat I had when I flew from Cairo to London in 2018. Not exactly the same but if you have a window seat, then it is a struggle to get in from the aisle 😉

The personal 15.4 inch screen is in par with other airlines offering.

Inflight magazine, air sickness bag, safety card

Seat controls

Universal A/C power outlet

Privacy divider

Reading lamp

Under the right armrest are the slippers, menu card and headphones.

Slippers and blanket

For this short flight, no amenity kits were given.

Pillow

Noise-cancelling headphones and IFE controller

I thought the film selection was average and included films like How to train your Dragon, Megan 2.0 and Magic Candies.

Pre-departure Beverage

Moments after settling in, I was offered something to drink. There was a choice of water, champagne or orange juice. I chose a glass of water which was served with some pretzels. I was also told that they would take the food order later.

There was already a bottle of mineral water at my seat when I boarded.

Pushback & Take Off

We pushed back at 12:57am and 15 minutes later, we were airborne.

Lavatory

There are 2 lavatories both of which were located in front of the bigger business cabin.

There was a shaving kit, shaving cream, mouthwash, deodorizing antibacterial and Payot hand cream.

Lie-flat Bed

The good thing about theses business seats is that they turn into a fully flat bed.

Wifi

There was no complimentary wifi for business class passengers, but instead they had some packages ranging from $4.95 to $13.95.

Dining

Dinner menu (for Seoul to Cebu flights)

Breakfast (for Cebu to Seoul flights)

Champagne (Piper Heidsieck Rare), white wine

Red wine, port wine

Alcoholic beverage

Beverage

Minutes after the seat belt sign was turned off, the flight attendants started offering hot towels. It was followed by an amuse bouche consisting of Pastrami ham with fried cheese skewer. I had some juice to go with it. Then, the lights were turned off.

I was able to sleep for an hour or so and less than 2 hours before landing, the lights were on and the crew came to offer some hot towels.

Hot towel

For drinks, I had apple juice.

My meal order was previously taken before take off (I chose the omelette). The omelette was served with some bacon, potato gratin and grilled vegetables. I was also offered some yogurt.

For bread, they had some croissant and Ube ensaymada (typical Filipino bread). I chose the former.

Sliced fruits

I had a cup of Sanggye green tea to end the meal.

Landing in Seoul Incheon Airport

We landed in Seoul Incheon Airport at 6:02am and reached our gate 5 minutes later.

CONCLUSION

This was my first time flying in Korean Air business class. I have seen the service in economy class last year and thought the usual friendly service from the crew was there. The seats turning into a fully flat bed was perfect and the movie selection was very good. Service during meal time was efficient (which I find to be consistent with Korean Air). It sometimes felt they were hurrying though but maybe that was just me. I thought the meal served was average and in par with other airlines' offering. I wish they would offer free wifi to their premium passengers in the future. Overall, it was a very nice flight and a good start for my first business class flight with Korean Air 😉
