Saudia Al Fursan Lounge, Jeddah Airport

I had about one and a half hour in Jeddah before my flight to Milan so I headed directly to the Saudia Al Fursan Lounge. They were celebrating the Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the lounge so there was a special corner to celebrate it with cakes and cups with the pink ribbon.

I was also able to take a quick shower after the Singapore to Jeddah flight. I left the lounge at 8:30am for the 9:35am departure.

Boarding, Gate A39a

Boarding began at 8:55 from gate A39a which is exclusive for business class and status passengers. Gate A39b is for economy class passengers.

Aircraft, A330 (HZ-AQ18)

Today, we are flying with an Airbus A330 with registration number HZ-AQ18. This aircraft is about 9.2 years old.

Business Class Cabin

The business cabin is in a 2-2-2 configuration from rows 1 to 5 with a total of 30 seats.

The business class cabin was full.

Seat 4A

My seat 4A is a window seat. The seat although without aisle access was modern and had a touch screen monitor. Already waiting at my seat is a big pillow, a plush duvet, a bottle of water and a pair of headphones.

Pillow and duvet (I have never seen a mattress pad on Saudia even on longer overnight flights.)

Personal screen

Bottle of water, IFE controller

Safety card, air-sickness bag, noise cancelling headphones

IFE controller, headphones

Tray table

Universal A/C port, USB-A

The seat turns into almost a fully flat bed.

Pre-departure Beverage

Moments after settling in, Melinda a friendly lady (I guess from Asia) came to present herself and to take my drinks order. There was a choice between orange juice, lemon or smoothie. I had the usual smoothie and was also offered a hot towel.

We were also offered the Saudi coffee and some dates.

Business Class Amenity Kit

Although the flight time is less than 6 hours, I appreciate that Saudia offers amenity kits on this flight. The contents were nice with skin care products from Elie Saab (face wash, face cream, lip balm and body lotion) plus a small bottle of perfume. The usual dental kit, eye mask, ear plugs and socks were also inside the amenity kit.

Wifi

On this flight, wifi was offered. I thought the pricing was more on the expensive side.

There is free messaging for everyone with a 5MB data limit.

As a business class passenger, I could surf for free with a data limit of 300MB which was not much. I wish they could offer unlimited free wifi just like Turkish Airlines and SAS.

Pushback and Take Off

We pushed back at 9:40am and 20 minutes later, we were airborne.

About 30 minutes after take off, mixed nuts were served, but no drinks 😉

Dining

The menu card was distributed before take off. Saudia has Dine on Demand service. I decided to have brunch first before taking a nap.

Menu

Non-alcoholic drinks, coffees

Tea, hot chocolate, oatmeal drink

At 10:30am, we were offered some mixed nuts (but no drinks). Then, food order was taken and I decided to have the cocoa chia pudding, braised short rib of beef and the cheesecake.

At 11:18am, my cocoa chia pudding was served. I had a glass of water and a BelliNo to go with it. The pudding was okay.

Then at 11:31am, I was served the short ribs. It was very good 😋

I asked the flight attendant if I could have both the cheese plate and dessert but was told that I could only choose one. I decided to stick with the cheese cake, it was very good.

To end the meal, I had a cup of hot chocolate which was served with 2 Patchis.

Movie Treats

I could not sleep so I just watched a movie. I ended up watching "Long Distance". It meant having some Movie Treats. I had some Pringles and a Kitkat.

I also had a glass of oatmeal drink.

Lavatory

There is only 1 lavatory for the whole cabin which is located in front.

Landing in Milan Malpensa

We landed in Milan at 2:17pm, about 12 minutes behind schedule an reached our gate 3 minutes later.

CONCLUSION

Back in April, I was looking for a cheap one way business class fare from South East Asia to Europe. I found some good fares with Saudia from Singapore to Milan and Barcelona. I paid about 750 USD and chose the Singapore to Milan fare. For the price I paid, I thought it was very good. The earlier flight from Singapore to Jeddah was nice overall (although service was not the best), and this flight to Milan was almost perfect. The seats were modern, the personal screen was touch screen, I got a a nice amenity kit, service was friendly and the food was very good. If ever they will this one-way fare again in the future, I will not hesitate to book it.
