SATS Premier Lounge

Saudia uses the SATS Premier Lounge in Changi Terminal 3. This is a very basic lounge. I wish I could access the Skyteam Lounge in Terminal 1 but I did not have much time and I was not even sure if the Skyteam Lounge is what it says it is (it looks like it is managed by Plaza Premium Lounge) so it might be a no access for me even if flying Saudia.

Boarding, Gate B8

Security check is done at the gate so I came early at the gate, around 2:45am. At 3:10am, boarding began.

Aircraft, Boeing 787-10 (HZ-AR28)

The B787-10 flying us to Jeddah is about 5 years old. (the photo was taken upon landing in Jeddah).

Business Class Cabin

The business class cabin is in a 1-2-1 configuration with a total of 24 seats from rows 1-6. On this flight, all the seats were occupied.

I chose 5L for my seat.

Seat, 5L

Saudia has the Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seats arranged in reverse-herringbone pattern on their B787s which reminded me of Qatar Airways business class seats on their B787s. I think Qatar Airways has a shoe rack though, while Saudia has none (or did I miss it?). Also, Qatar Airways has 2 seats less than Saudia.

This is the same seat I got when I flew with them from Casablanca to Jeddah two weeks ago. I love that the seats are modern and lie-flat and not the outdated seats I had from Riyadh to Manila a few days prior. Already waiting at my seat is a large pillow, a plush duvet, headphones and a bottle of water.

Large pillow, IFE controller

Noise cancelling headphones Saudia branded, headphones jack, universal A/C outlet, IFE controller, literature rack.

Safety card, air-sickness bag

Side panel with seat controls

Coat hook

Storage

Headphones, blanket

Foot well. I believe the footwell on the bulkhead seats (row 1) are much bigger than the rest of the cabin.

Foldable tray table

Special Amenity Kit

Moments after settling in, the flight attendant taking care of my aisle came to introduce herself. There were about 4 flight attendants working in the business cabin, and all four were Arab speaking. I was offered this special edition amenity kit launched in 2023 coinciding with Saudia´s new brand identity.

As expected, the contents were impressive: a passport holder, compact mirror, key ring, USB charger, pend and comb. It also had the Sprekenhus-branded skincare products (face cream, face cleanser, lip balm, perfume roll on and a hand lotion). The usual eyemask and dental kit were also inside the kit.

Pre-departure Beverage

Moments later, I was offered something to drink. They had lemon juice, orange juice, mango or strawberry smoothie. I settled for a glass of strawberry smoothie. A hot towel was also offered.

The usual Saudi coffee was offered together with some dates. I always try to enjoy this local aspect of the flight πŸ‘

Wifi

I asked the flight attendant if they had wifi and sadly, they did not have it on this flight. Had they had wifi onboard, wifi would have been free for business class passengers (you enter your ticket number on the access page) although it was limited unlike Turkish Airlines wifi.

Pushback and Take Off

Pushback began at 3:48am and at the same time the safety video was screened. They start first in Arabic followed by English. Lastly, there is an Islamic prayer. 20 minutes later, we were airborne.

Dining

It is interesting to note that they have an inflight chef on this flight just like Turkish Airlines and Etihad Airways in first class. It only shows that this route is important for Saudia.

Menu, ala carte

Menu, light dining and movie treats

Menu, local

Beverage list

Coffee

Non-alcoholic sparkling selection

Tea, oat milk, chocolate

About 50 minutes after take off, we were offered some nuts and something to drink. I had another glass of smoothie, this time mango flavor.

Light Dining

Another 40 minutes later, I was served my beef sliders which was very good (and a big portion too).

For drinks, I had the non-sparkling BelliNo without ice.

Time to Sleep

I love it when the seats turn into a fully flat bed πŸ‘The seat is 78 inches in lie-flat mode.

Movie Treats

I was able to sleep for an hour or so and about 2 hours before landing in Jeddah, the flight attendant distributed some snacks. I had a Pringles and Twix, although I decided to save them as I had planned to have something from the menu instead.

Saudia´s IFE is called Beyond. I found the film selection to be good.

I ended up watching the movie "Fahrenheit 451".

Breakfast

Strangely after serving the Movie Treats, the crew just stayed in the galley. After waiting for 15 minutes, I decided to call them to place my order. The FA came to tell me that we only had about 1.5 hours left before landing and that she would need to ask the inflight chef first. She came back moments later to inform me that the chef could prepare the Breakfast cold cuts for starter and the Grilled spiced chicken thigh as the main course, both of which I gladly ordered. She seemed not willing to do that though.

Strangely, about 5 minutes after I placed my order the rest of the passengers in my aisle started to wake up (mostly Arabs) and ordered something to eat and she did not say a word to them.

The cold cuts were okay but nothing special. The FA also forgot to give me a table napkin. Luckily I always eat slowly πŸ˜‰

The chicken was good πŸ‘

I also had a cup of Bergamot tea. It was first served without the Patchi chocolates. When I asked the FA if I could have some Patchi, I was told that she would have to check if they still had some since the other passengers have also ordered the Patchi. I just smiled at her. Moments later, she came back with 4 Patchi chocolates and said "these are from the chef". Lovely πŸ‘

Lavatory

There are 2 lavatories in the cabin, both of which were located in front. It had the Saudia branded hand lotion, hand hygiene and perfume spray. If you notice that the floor in the lavatory is wet, it might be because the passengers are doing ablutions during the flight.

Landing in Jeddah

We landed in Jeddah at 7:20am, 35 minutes ahead of schedule.

CONCLUSION

There are some good things I loved about this flight, and a few not so good things as well. The modern seats with aisle access for all passengers turning into a fully flat bed is always appreciated. The special edition amenity kit was super cool and had an impressive content. The meals were mostly very good, thanks to the inflight chef.

Sadly, the service in general was a bit slow. I waited 50 minutes after take off to be offered some nuts and smoothie, and another 40 minutes to have the beef slider. To be told that we only had 1.5 hours left before landing when I tried to order food was not something I expected from an FA. She also forgot the table napkin and when I asked for a Patchi, she told me she would have to check if they had some left since other passengers have also ordered them.

Overall, it was still a nice flight since the seats were modern and I got a special edition amenity kit. πŸ˜‰
