Al Fursan Lounge, Jeddah Airport
I had a long layover in Jeddah which I spent most in the
Al Fursan Lounge. Food was very good as they have made to order pasta as well as freshly baked pizza. I was also able to take a shower.
Short-story dispenser 👍
More than an hour before departure, I decided to leave the lounge and head to the boarding gate.
Boarding, Gate A32
Boarding began at 12:40am with those flying in business class and those with Skyteam status getting priority boarding.
Aircraft, B787-10 (HZ-AR24)
We flew with the 7-year old B787-10 from Jeddah to Bangkok. (photo taken upon landing in Bangkok Airport).
Business Class Cabin
The business class cabin (and the seats) are the same as the one I had when I flew with them
from Singapore to Jeddah last year so I was sort of familiar with the seat features.
The cabin has a total of 24 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration from rows 1 to 6. On this flight, all the seats were occupied.
Seat 3A
I chose 3A as my seat from the seat map about a month before departure.
The seat turns into a fully flat bed which I believe is a guarantee if you fly with Saudia's B787.
Personal screen, foot well
From the movie selection, I ended up watching "Mandalorian and Grogu" which I thought was a nice film.
IFE controller, headphones
Headphones, air-sickness bag, safety card
I love the new pillow and blanket, reminding me of what
Qatar Airways offers in business class.
IFE controller, AC power port, headphone socket
Towel & Welcome Drink
Moments after settling in, the crew began offering hot towels and welcome drinks.
I chose the date smoothie which was very good 😋
The inflight-chef pouring the Saudia coffee for me 👍
Saudi coffee and dates
Amenity Kit
The amenity kit was from Elie Saab and contained the usual eye mask, socks, ear plugs, dental kit plus skin care products from Elie Saab (face cream, face wash, lotion and lip balm). The bag was new so I was excited to add it to my collection.
I also got the female amenity kit from Claire! Thanks so much, Claire 🙏
Menu Card & Beverage List
The menu card was also offered while waiting for boarding to be completed. It read as follows:
Take Off & Landing
At 1:30am, we bagan our pushback and 14 minutes later, we were airborne.
Wifi
Sadly, wifi was not available on this flight.
Dining
Minutes after the seat belt sign was turned off, the crew started asking if passengers would like to dine. Just like most carriers nowadays, Saudia offers on-demand dining. I opted to have some light meal shortly after take off.
Mixed nuts
From the light dining menu, I had the Wagyu Burger which was fantastic! I also had a glass of the non-alcoholic Bellino. By this time, I had the chance to ask the flight attendant working on my aisle about here nationality. I was right, as I had guessed she was from the Philippines based on the way she spoke. She definitely is a gem of the company and someone Saudia should be proud of. I learned that she has been working for Saudia for 21 years now and that showed on how she took care of the passengers in the cabin 👍
Lavatory
There are 2 lavatories in the business cabin, both of which were located in front, one on the left side and one on the right side. It had the usual Saudia branded hand soap, lotion and perfume spray.
Movie Treats
I was able to sleep for a few hours and when I woke up, Claire had already selected some snacks for me and left them on my tray table. Talk about impeccable service 😊
Lunch
About 2 hours before landing, I was asked by Claire if I wanted to have my meal. I started with a plate of sliced fruits which was served with some bread, butter and a cup of tea.
For my main course, I had the frittata which was very good.
I was also served some Patchi chocolates to go with my tea.
Landing in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
We landed in Bangkok Airport at 1:16pm and reached our gate 10 minutes later.
CONCLUSION
Having flown with Saudia from Tunis to Jeddah earlier, I continued my trip and flew from Jeddah to Bangkok the following day. I have to say that this is one of the best flights I've had with Saudia: a friendly and professional service from the crew especially from Claire who took care of my aisle, fantastic dining experience and a modern seat which served as my home for more than 8 hours. The Elie Saab amenity kit was really nice, and getting both kits was a positive surprise 😉 Sadly, wifi was not offered on this flight. Overall, it was a really great flight. To all the crew on this flight, Shukran 🙏
