Selfie with the Wilanow Palace, Warsaw

A few days ago, I was in Poland for the first time and stayed two nights in the beautiful city of Warsaw. The weather was not as nice as it was in Athens where I stayed for two nights before coming here but I was able to see a lot, just the same. I actually arrived in Warsaw on a Saturday morning and since my flight back to Stockholm was not until Monday afternoon, I bought the Weekend Ticket at the airport for 24 Polish Zloty. This ticket is good from Friday at 7pm until 8am the following Monday (for buses, trams and metros) and I recommend buying it if you will be in the city during weekends. Also, they have the Warsaw Pass which allows you to visit a lot of attractions in variations of 24hrs, 48 hrs and 72 hrs including entrances to museums and the Hop on Hop off Bus Tour. I did not avail of the Warsaw Pass as I wanted to take my time and also the weather was not that nice but I would suggest you take advantage of that specially if you are visiting Warsaw during the summer season. It is also good to note that some museums have free entrances on specific days. During my stay in Warsaw, the Warsaw Rising Museum was open to the public on Sundays while the Wilanow Museum has free entrance on Thursdays but it can change from season to season so you have to check out their website. I would have wanted to visit the Copernicus Science Center but wasn't able to do so but hopefully next time. Here are some of the top attractions I visited and which I recommend when visiting the city of Warsaw.

The Royal Castle in Warsaw: This castle served as the official residence of the Polish Monarchs. If you have time, I suggest you also buy the ticket and visit the Lanckoronski Gallery where you will find Rembrandt's paintings including "Girl in a Picture Frame".

This is a video I took in April 2016 during my second visit to the Old Town in Warsaw.

Sigismund's Column: The column located in the Castle Square was built to commemorate Sigismund III Vasa who moved Poland's capital from Krakow to Warsaw in 1596.

St. John's Archcathedral: considered as the mother church of the archdiocese of Warsaw

Jesuit Church also known as the Church of the Gracious Mother of God

Old Town Market Place: This is the oldest part of the Old Town of Warsaw

Mermaid Statue: A guardian and symbol of Warsaw standing in the Old Town Square

Palace of Culture & Science: This is the tallest building in Poland and the 8th tallest building in the European Union. From the terrace on the 30th floor, you will be able to have a great view of the city specially during summer.

Copernicus Science Center: A very interesting museum for all ages!

Old Orangery which is part of the Royal Lazienki Palace

The Royal Lazienki  Palace: This palace stands on a man-made island surrounded by a lake.

Lazienki Park

Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow

The Jewish Cemetery where you will find the cenotaph of Janusz Korczak

POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews: There are lots of things to see inside the museum so make sure you plan your time during your visit.

Ghetto Heroes Monument located near the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews

St. Anne's Church located near the Royal Castle in Warsaw

National Stadium in Warsaw

The Rotunda PKO, as seen from the terrace of the Palace of Science and Culture on the 30th floor

Taking the public transportation: It's one of the best way to discover the city.

20 Polish Zloty as a souvenir 😉
