Last week, Mike and I had the chance to visit San Marino. It was my first time to visit this little country. while Mike has been there before. We stayed 2 nights in Bologna and from there, we took the train to Rimini in the morning, then a bus to San Marino. We came back in the afternoon after seeing most of the sights we wanted to visit. It was a short but very rewarding trip as San Marino is now officially my country number 90 😉 In case you are planning to visit San Marino in the future, here are some of my travel tips. As always, feel free to comment and share your travel tips below!

Rimini Train Station
We took the train from Bologna at 8:38am and arrived in Rimini Station at 10:10am. The train ticket price for the return trip Bologna-Rimini was EUR 21.60 per person. This ticket was flexible and can be changed to an earlier flight (the way we did on the return). We knew that the next bus from Rimini to San Marino was at 10:30am so we had about 20 minutes to buy our bus tickets and get to the bus.
The Tabaccheria in front of Rimini Station is where we bought our bus tickets, cost was EUR7 per person one way. From there, it was a 2-minute walk to the bus stop (turn left when you exit the Tabaccheria).
The bus stop is in front of Hotel Napoleon.
We took the last 2 seats on the bus, while those who came after us had to stand.
After less than an hour, we reached Parking 2 which is the terminal in Rimini. It is steps away from the Horse bronze statue.
Instead of walking to get to the historic center, we decided to buy a ticket and took the cute "train" above. The price for a return ticket is EUR5 per person. It will leave you just steps away from the gates of Tower 1.
Map of the Shuttle Castles tour. We took the train from B and got off in D. We thought we would stop by in C on the way back for the 3rd Tower but Mike was already tired.
The price of the multi-museum ticket is EUR 11 although it includes free access to the 1st and 2nd Towers as well as to other museums. Reduced ticket price is EUR8.
We were also given a map which shows the sights which are included in the multi-museum ticket.
Here is what is included in the ticket:
First Tower, Rocco o Guaita
2nd Tower (Cesta o Fratta)
Palazzo Pubblico
Inside the Palazzo Pubblico
Museo di Stato
Chiesa e Pinacoteca San Francesco
Museo del Francobollo e della Moneta
I also had my passport stamped inside the Museum (cost was EUR5).
Although included in the ticket, we were not able to visit the following: Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea.
We on the other hand visited the Basilica del Santo San Marino situated on Piazzale Domus Plebis.
Some other sights we saw from the outside but did not visit are:
Titanus Museum
Museum of Torture
Museo dei Vampiri
Museo Illusione Tra Arte e Scienza
Monument of Bartolomeo Borghesi
Il Cantone - Punto Panoramico San Marino
Cable Car
La Casa del Natale
Taking the Bus back to Rimini
We took the train back to Parking 2 and then bought our ticket back to Rimini from the ticketing office.
