Egyptair Gienah Lounge
We had about 4 hours at Cairo International Airport so we decided to spend it at the Gienah Lounge, a review of which you can find here.
Aircraft, Boeing 737-800
Instead of the scheduled Airbus, we had a Boeing flying us to Frankfurt that morning.
Boarding, Gate 10
Boarding started around 8:55 at gate 10.
Business Class Cabin
On this flight, 14 seats were occupied. I was kind of curious why the cabin starts with row 8 and had to ask a flight attendant about it but unfortunately, she didn't know the reason either.
Seat 10K
Our seats on the right side of the cabin.
Personal screen
Egypt Air business class headphones and entertainment controls
There was not much to choose from the film selection so I ended up watching August: Osage County, which was maybe too much a drama film for me.
Pre-departure Beverage
For our pre-departure beverage, we decided to have a glass of guava juice.
Hot towels were also distributed as well as headsets.
View a few minutes after take off.
Dining
As soon as the seat belt signs were turned off, the flight attendants started serving drinks for the meal. There was a choice between hibiscus drink or orange juice and Mike settled for the former.
Egypt Air business class menu card
Some snacks were served consisting of mixed nuts and a glass of juice.
Everything was served on a tray: The appetizer was "Assorted Canapes (Smoked Beef, smoked salmon, trout and chicken)" while the salad was fresh mixed salad with thousand island dressing.
French veal ragout
For the main course, there was a choice between "Blanquette du veau with mushroom sauce accompanied by Pilaf rice and Mixed vegetables" or "Chicken breast stuffed with smoked beef and Emmental cheese cordon blue style served with rosti potatoes and mixed vegetables" or "Salmon fillet and shrimp in dill sauce accompanied by risotto rice and grilled vegetables". I decided to have the French veal ragout which tasted excellent 😋
After the main course, the flight attendant came with a trolley of seasonal fresh fruits and I decided to have an apple. A plate with sliced apples or melon would have been better but I guess that's how they prefer to do it.
Fudge cake
The dessert consisted of 2 choices: Fudge cake and cream Pistachio or Cheese cake with raspberry and panna cotta with coffee and I ended up choosing the fudge cake. There was also cheese and fruits consisting of cheddar cheese and blue cheese served with dried fig but I decided to skip it since I was already full.
To end the meal serving, we also got some chocolates and ...
... a bottle of mineral water.
Lavatory
CONCLUSION
The service on this flight to Frankfurt was definitely much better, probably due to hard competition. Also, there was a menu card which was lacking on the Johannesburg-Cairo flight. I thought the seats were also comfortable and nicer. If only they could give the same great service on all their flights, I guess Egypt Air would succeed in attracting more passengers. To the great crew who served us on this flight, Shukran and until next time 😉
