Hilton Dusseldorf Executive Lounge

Trip to Dusseldorf and Cologne

Introduction

This summer, we decided to spend 5 nights in Germany, specifically in Dusseldorf and Cologne. I haven´t been there myself so I am really looking forward to this trip. As expected, we are staying at Hilton hotels. Hoping the weather will be beautiful during our trip!

How to get here: From Dusseldorf Airport, take bus 721 and get off at D-Nordfriedhof. The hotel is a few minutes walk from there. Uber is also perfect.

Reception

As we arrived after 12 noon, the room was not ready yet and was told that we could get a room at once if we paid 20 Euros. We declined and decided to have some drinks in the Executive Lounge for the meantime. When we were about to leave our luggage at the reception to go sightseeing, we were told that our room was ready. Perfect 👍

Infused water and fruits were available by the reception area.

Restroom

There is one restroom located opposite the Executive Lounge, near the main breakfast restaurant.

King Room, 1124

The room we got was on the 11th floor (the highest floor is 12th floor).

The bed was comfortable, as expected as well as the pillows.

There were no bottles of water in the room but instead, there is a carafe which you can use to get water from the water station near the elevator. There is both still and carbonated water which is a big plus for Mike 👍

Wardrobe with safe, towels, hair dryer and iron/ironing board.

Since slippers and bathrobes were to be requested, I called the reception and got the slippers delivered to the room. I very rarely use bathrobes while staying in hotels so it was not a problem for me.

The Lavazza coffee machine was a big plus since other hotels only offer instant coffee sachets. But since we had access to the lounge, we never really had the chance to use it.

The mini bar had some drink items for sale.

I thought that the bathroom was on the smaller side. The usual Crabtree & Evelyn bath products were offered.

Our view sadly was not inspiring.

The executive lounge is located on the ground floor just before the breakfast restaurant. It is open from 6:30am to 10pm.

Sunny side up eggs (I saw them only on a Sunday).

They also have made to order eggs but instead of having the menu on each table for each guest to see, they have a small paper in the hot buffet station which I missed on our first 2 nights. It was only on the 3rd night I saw a guest served 2 sunny side up that I realized they have made to order eggs.

I decided to order the mushroom omelette which was okay.

Exploring the Area

The Rhine Tower is a must visit when in Dusseldorf. You get a discount if you visit before 12 noon and after 8pm (discounted price is 9 Euros).

CONCLUSION

It was nice to visit Dusseldorf and stay at the Hilton Dusseldorf for 3 nights. There is a Hampton located near the main train station if you are looking for a cheaper alternative. Just like most hotels, there are pros and cons. The pros include modern room with USB A and C ports, very good breakfast, a Lavazza coffee machine in the room and still and carbonated water from the water station. For the cons: the location is not central which means taking an Uber to the Old Town especially during the summer weather where walking is not advisable; the slippers are to be requested instead of having them in the room and the made to order egg menu not being placed on each table but just on the corner of the hot buffet station which was hardly visible. For the price we paid including access to the Executive Lounge as a diamond member, it was really worth it.
