Trip to Kathmandu flying on Etihad A380 First Apartment and Qatar Airways A380 First Class

Last month, Mike and I traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal for the first time to meet our travel partner Helena, owner of Helena India Travels. We are sending our first group to Nepal in autumn and it was a great opportunity to meet her as well as the owners of the hotels where our group would be staying at. We were offered complimentary five nights stay by Mingma, the Nepalese owner of Chhahari Retreat and needless to say, we enjoyed every single day of our stay not only because of the nice room and excellent food in the restaurant but moreso because each one of them treated us like their own family. As for our flight, Mike and I used our remaining American Airlines Advantage miles to fly in first class from Europe to the Indian Sub continent, just before the devaluation in March, which is 80K miles return per person. Here's the full trip report of our trip to Nepal and I hope that thru this, more people would consider traveling to this wonderful country in the future!

A day in London

Taking the tube to the city

After checking in and leaving our luggage at the Hilton London Heathrow Airport, we decided we would explore the city for the rest of the day.

Our first stop was at Harrods, the famous department store in London. It was my first time to visit it so I was really excited.

This Wagyu Kobe fillet sells for £600 per kg. OMG!

We then decided to visit SOHO, the famous entertainment district.

And finally the Piccadilly Circus!

Getting from LHR Terminal 4 to Terminal 5

This is the day we fly back to Stockholm. From London Heathrow Terminal 4, we took the Heathow Connect to Terminal 2/3.

From there, we changed to Heathrow Express to Terminal 5 where our flight was departing.

As we did not have any checked in luggage and already had our boarding passes, we went straight to the security check. Everything went smoothly (even without using fast track) and since we had a lot of time before our flight, we headed to the British Airways Galleries Club South where we checked some emails and had some snacks.

Boarding began 30 minutes before departure at gate A21, starting with families with kids followed by business class passengers and those with status on British Airways and One World.

Complimentary newspapers were available before boarding the aircraft.

The business class cabin was from rows 1-5 with a 3-3 configuration with the middle seat being left vacant, as usual. That day, 9 of the 20 seats in business class were taken,

A few moments after settling in, we were offered some hot towels.

Airshow enroute to Stockholm

Pushback started at 11:30 afterwhich the safety video began to play. Unfortunately, there was a long queue for departing aircrafts and we waited for about 15 minutes before taking off.

As soon as the seatbelt sign was turned off, the meal service comenced. First, packaged nuts were served along with our choice of drinks. I settled for a glass of apple juice and water while Mike had his usual gin and tonic.

For this flight, they were serving brunch which I thought was not that good given that our arrival time in Stockholm was at 3pm and that they should have served lunch instead.

Mike had his usual champagne (French Castelnau) to go with his meal.

To end the meal service, coffee was served.

Cool to see this frame inside the business class lavatory.

The lavatory was clean with the usual Elamis hand lotion and hand wash.

About 30 minutes before landing, the captain came on the PA to update us of the weather in Stockholm and our arrival time.

Landing at Stockholm Arlanda Airport

We landed at Stockholm Arlanda Airport at 2:54 pm although it took some time before we reached our gate at Terminal 2.

As business class passengers, we were the first ones to disembark and clear passport control. As we did not have any luggage, we headed directly to the taxi stand where we took a cab back home.

I've flown a few times in business class on this same route (with British Airways) and I thought that it was a nice flight overall. I loved the fact that their lounge at London Heathrow is a very nice lounge where we stayed before our flight. The crew on the flight were friendly although the food served could have been better as I thought serving lunch was much more appropriate than serving brunch. If I were to choose between SAS (who also flies direct between London and Stockholm) and British Airways, I would go for British Airways.
