Me during our visit to Pilanesberg National Park & Game Reserve in 2007
First visit: December 2007
My Country #9
In December 2007, I was able to visit South Africa for the first time together with our Singelresor group. We started our trip in Cape Town and ended in Johannesburg. Then in May 2014, I was back in South Africa although this time I was with the whole family for the celebration of Mike's 65th birthday. Here are some of the places we visited and which I would recommend to my fellow travelers.
Table Mountain: We took the cable car to the top which gave us breathtaking views of the city of Cape Town.
Watching the sunset from the Table Mountain: In case you happen to be visiting this famous landmark in the late afternoon, I suggest waiting for the sunset because it is truly a magical experience!
Visiting Robben Island: Former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was imprisoned here for 18 years. There are lots of stories to be told and is a must when visiting Cape Town.
Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is definitely one of the liveliest places to be in South Africa
The Clock Tower, Waterfront
Visiting one of the many diamond shops
Camps Bay
A boat trip to Seal Island
Cape Point Lighthouse
Cape Point, Table Mountain National Park
Cape of Good Hope: The most south-western point of the African continent
Visiting one of several townships in Cape Town
Fernklof Nature Reserve - Cliff Path
Wine Tasting Tour: Since South Africa produces its own wines, this tour is not to be missed if you are a wine lover.
The architecture of some of the houses
Bourke's Luck Potholes
Blyde Canyon Nature Reserve: This is the third largest canyon in the world.
Heli Safari: Aside from the breathtaking scenery you will discover from the air, you are also contributing in helping fight against poaching when you take this tour.
Staying in a privately owned game reserve: We stayed at the Makutsi Safari Springs and because we always have satisfied clients whenever we send groups to them, this family owned company is highly recommended.
Visiting a local family: During our visit, one of the family members showed us how to make claypots. afterwhich they had some dancing and singing.
