Trip to Quito and Galapagos
Introduction
Last week, I was in Ecuador for the first time where I stayed 3 nights in the capital city of Quito and 2 nights in Galapagos. I have heard a lot of nice things about Galapagos and watched a lot of videos about it: that it is a special place since most animals can only be found here (endemic species) including the giant tortoise, marine iguana, land iguana, blue-footed boobie and many more so I really had a great experience even though it was a short trip on the Islands. In Quito, I was surprised to see that there were so many churches and basilicas, built close to each other, some with very extravagant decors like the Church of La Compañía which has a very impressive and ornate interior covered with gold sheets and the oldest church in the country yet simple, the San Francisco Catholic Church. Of course, being able to visit the Mitad del Mundo was an indescribable feeling!
For this trip, I flew in economy class from Stockholm to Quito, the only business class being the flight with COPA Airlines from Panama to Miami. I had short to long haul flights but the access to the lounges in different airports helped me rest and enjoy some good food in between flights. Of course, I met great friends during this trip including the group of Americans, Canadians and Lithuanians during my Galapagos excursion and some more from different nationalities during my day-tour in Quito, making this trip a really memorable one 😉
