During our stay in Hanoi, we decided to stay 2 nights in Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh which is about 2 hours from Hanoi by car. Most tourists who have limited time would take day trips and if you are planning to do the same, a visit to the Bai Dinh Pagoda, the largest Buddhist temple in Vietnam and a 2-hour boat trip in Trang An to see the caves is a must. Trang An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and seeing those lady rowers flex their muscles while navigating inside the caves and exploring the winding river was unbelievable.
