Review: Hilton Gdansk

Hilton Gdansk guest room with 360-degrees view of the city

Last week, I had the chance to visit the beautiful Polish city of Gdansk for the first time. It was sort of a last minute trip since my sister from Norway informed me she had booked a 2-night trip to Gdansk with her sons just three weeks before the said trip. Luckily, I had some Hilton points left on my account so I booked a one night stay at Hilton Gdansk and for the flight, Ryanair was still selling a return flight for just 260 SEK, making it a really inexpensive trip. As for the room upgrade, it was one of the coolest we got even though we did not have views of the river as we were told during check-in that it was the only room with glass windows (on the upper floor) offering 360-degrees view of the city. I had no idea such a room exists since it is not being shown on the Hilton website so it was a unexpected upgrade👍

Date of stay: July 27-28, 2022
Address: Targ Rybny 1, Gdansk 80-838 Poland
Nightly Rate: 30,000 Hilton Points
Room: Booked King Guest Room, got upgraded to only room with 360 degrees views of the city

Check-in

We arrived at the hotel around 3:30pm and was immediately helped by an associate. I was welcomed as a diamond member and was given a welcome letter which included a voucher worth 50 PLN (I believe it is because I have diamond status) and which can be used in their restaurants. He also told us we got an upgrade and that it was the only room with glass windows on all sides giving us great views of the city. Thanks guys 👍

Inside one of the drawers of the console is a hairdryer.

Then, there is a small area with an arm chair and table and the stair leading to the 6th floor 👍 This area can be closed thru a black-out curtain.

The stairs lead to a small seating area with a chair, and then the views 👍

As a point of reference, the gray circle on the upper left shows part of our room on the 5th floor and the extended 6th floor 😍

From the Hilton app floor plan, the yellow circle is room 506.

It was really one of the best upgrades we received as we got fantastic views of the Old City Hall and Basilica of Saint Mary among others and the fact that we were the only ones staying in the hotel to have this view was just awesome 👍

The breakfast restaurant itself is on the small side in my opinion so it helps that they have outdoor seating although it could be a problem if it is winter and the hotel has full occupancy. From other reviews, elite members are directed to a reserved area although nobody mentioned it to us during our visit.

Below are some photos from the breakfast buffet:

Muffins, croissants

Cold cuts including smoked salmon, ham, dried smoked sausages, salami and poultry ham.

Salads

Cereals, dried nuts

Hot dishes including bacon, sausages, roasted potatoes, grilled tomatoes.

Dessert section including a rotating chocolate fountain.

Yogurt, juices, water

There is also a menu for made to order eggs and waffles.

From the menu, I ordered waffles with whipped cream and fruits which was very good 😋

High 5 Bar (open from 12pm to 10pm) is the rooftop bar with fantastic views from the terrace.

We decided to use the 50 PLN voucher and had some alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, where I paid an extra 113 PLN as we were 5 persons in total.

There is also an ATM near the reception, ground floor.

Exploring the Area

One of the best things about staying at the Hilton Gdansk is it´s central location.

The St. Dominic´s Fair was being held during our visit so there were lots of activities going on.

CONCLUSION

I really have to thank my sister for letting me know of her trip to Gdansk. Although I have long been wanting to travel to this Polish city, I have always postponed it for one reason or another. This time, I did it and stayed at the Hilton Gdansk. I knew that the hotel has one of the best locations as it is close to most of the attractions, although I have to admit that hotels like the Radisson and Radisson Blu have great locations too. Having received a generous upgrade with a nice room (and the only one with 360-degrees view of the city) was just awesome, making my sister and nephews a bit jealous as they were staying at the Hampton Old Town. The rooftop bar was probably the place to hang-out in the city with fantastic views of the river. The staff we had contact with were all friendly. Although the hotel does not have an Executive Lounge, the 50 PLN food and beverage voucher was really appreciated. Lastly, the breakfast buffet had everything I could ask for, and a Prosecco too for Mike 😉 Overall, we were very glad we stayed at the Hilton Gdansk and would highly recommend it to everyone when looking for a hotel to stay at.
